PAPER SHREDDING EVENT:

The Town of Bolton will hold its annual Shredding Event – Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 9 a.m. to noon at the recycling/transfer station. Residents from the Town of Bolton can bring documents for shredding to the recycling center. All rings and binders must be removed. Staples do not need to be removed. There is no limit to the quantity of documents to be shredded.

Dog Licensing

Dog licensing payments can be made by MAIL, DROP BOX or ONLINE only.

For your convenience we are offering an online way to pay for your dog license through our View Point Cloud Permitting system. Please follow this link and then click on the Town Clerk Dog Licensing module to complete your renewal. In order to use the online system you must be able to upload your dog’s current rabies certificate to complete the transaction. boltonct.viewpointcloud.com/.

Licenses expire June 30th and new licenses must be obtained on or before that date.

Dogs that are not licensed by July 1st, 2022 will be charged a penalty of $1 per month thereafter.

Temporary RECORDhub Subscription

To facilitate greater access to your online records, we will be implementing a temporary RECORDhub subscription for Connecticut Town Clerks with NO SUBSCRIPTION FEE and $2.00 per page prints for your customers.  This new temporary subscription will be available starting at 12:00 am on Monday, March 23, 2020, and will continue until further notice.  The subscription will be named "Land Records – Temporary No Fee" and will be available in the list of subscription options for your town. This is a “day forward” option beginning March 23, 2020.  All current RECORDhub subscriptions will remain in effect.

The Town Clerk's office handles many diverse tasks that are governed by Town Charter, Connecticut State Statute and local Town Government, in the form of a Board of Selectmen. The Town Clerk also has custody of the Town Seal. See below for policy regarding its use.        
 
The office is the repository of all the town's permanent records which include, but are not limited to, land and vital records.

Land Records

The land records are open to the public during our regular office hours.  Copies of land record documents cost $1 per page; certification of a copied document costs $2.  Recording fees are standardized throughout the State of Connecticut: $60 for the first page of the document, and $5 for each additional page of the same document. When the state conveyance fee is collected on a transfer document, there is an extra fee of $2.  MERS related documents are a flat fee of $159 for Releases and Assignments and $159 for the first and $5 for each additional page of the same MERS document other than Releases and Assignments. We must have the original document for recording.

Vital Records

Anyone whose birth, marriage or death occurred in the Town of Bolton, or was a resident at the time of the event, will be able to find their vital records at the Clerk's office. However, under State Statute, Birth records are a restricted record and an individual requesting a copy must meet certain qualifications under the law in order to obtain the record. Please be aware that we are not permitted, under law, to verify on the phone or  by any other means, whether we do or don't have a birth record.

Applying for a Marriage License:

When applying for your license, you must do so in the town of occurrence. Both parties to the marriage must appear in person and possess a valid government issued ID. The license is good for 65 days and the fee is $50 (fee increase to $50 as of July 1, 2018) (Cash or Check). Marriage Licenses are done by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Dog Licenses

June is dog license renewal month in the State of Connecticut.  Per State Statute, all dogs who are six months or older must be licensed regardless of the time of year. Dog owners must provide a valid rabies certificate and proof of the dog's spaying or neutering (if applicable) in order for a license to be issued. Dog License Information & Fees.

Certificate of Name Change
These documents can either be prepared by an attorney or you can come to our office and we will do the document for you. Name changes occur when you have an event such as marriage, divorce or court order. They are required to be filed on the land record if you own property in town. Cost for filing is $60. Please provide proof of the change to your name, i.e. marriage license, divorce decree or court order. Name change form 

Trade Name Certificates

Trade names are required when any business in town is
using a fictitious name and is neither incorporated or an
LLC.  The fee is $10 and all proprietors of the business

Notary Registration and Notarization of Documents

A notary public who resides in the Town of Bolton must register in the Town Clerk's office when he or she receives their notary certificate from the State of Connecticut. The registration fee is $20 payable by cash/check. We also offer notary services in the Town Clerk's office and Selectman's office. Notarial services are done only in person and you must present the entire document, not just the page being notarized in order for us to notarize your document. Please present a valid government issued picture I.D. or 2 Alternative forms of identification. See list of acceptable forms of I.D. Please note that we do not notarize Wills, Living Wills, I-9 forms or any documents that are to be recorded on the Bolton Land Records. There is a $2 fee for each notarization and $5 for land record related documents.
